Games to motivate

Well I have to say today in class was alot of fun. I especially enjoyed Twister. It was like we were having an early birthday celebration. It was awesome. I also enjoyed having the opportunity to come up with ideas for games. I think we are all creative when we set our minds to it, and I think opportunities like today help us all as future teachers to tap into that and gives us an outlet. I plan on using games. In my past field experience, I've always tried to incorporate some type of game in all of my lessons. If it wasn't an actual game I would always try to have the students role play, whether it would be a character in a book or film, or even a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich. lol I know it sounds funny, but in the Life Skills class I was in for field experience, all of the students loved putting on the costumes while they learned how to make a sandwich. One of the games I am most proud of is one I called Syllable Soup, This game gave the students a chance to spell words from the story. In order to spell the words, different students would be given syllable cards, they would hurry to the front of the room and the students would stand side by side to spell out the word that was recalled from the story. There would be an elimination table so that after the cards were used, they would be placed there. If it turned out some of the syllables were not available, the student would try to go through the discard file to find the missing part. This of course would all be set to music,to help them enjoy themselves and maybe even move to the beat.
